In our latest episode of The Pop Disciple Podcast, we are joined by Jasper Leak, the acclaimed songwriter/producer and first-time music supervisor behind Alan Hicks and Rashida Jones' Quincy: A Life Beyond Measure, the Netflix documentary exploring the journey and legacy of Quincy Jones.

Originally from Sydney, Australia, Jasper Leak has emerged as a talented music supervisor, producer, songwriter, and multi-faceted musician.

After moving to New York in 2005, Jasper quickly established himself as an in-demand touring musician. He has performed all over the world with artists like Sia, Tegan & Sara, Seal, Fran Healy and Joy Williams.

After forging a collaborative relationship with Sia, the two wrote “Free the Animal,” featured on Sia’s critically-acclaimed sixth album "1000 Forms of Fear" and “Broken Glass”, featured on "This Is Acting", an album nominated for a Grammy in the Best Pop Album category. Jasper and Sia also wrote “Suffering” featured in the hit Amazon series Transparent as well as “Balladino,” which appeared in the animation feature Charming.

In 2017, Jasper was approached by director Alan Hicks about serving as Music Supervisor for the documentary Quincy, an intimate look at the life of music industry giant Quincy Jones. Hicks would co-direct, along with the legendary artist’s daughter, Rashida Jones. Jasper jumped at the opportunity, diving in to Quincy Jones’ massive 3,000 track, 300 album catalog. After months reviewing Quincy's music, Jasper was able to cull the list to 70 essential tracks, which were used to score the documentary. Quincy went on to win a Grammy for Best Music Documentary in 2018. In 2019, Jasper was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Music Supervision for his work on the Netflix film, which marks his first Emmy nomination.
